What Is Knitwear?
Knitwear is a collective term for knitted clothing. This term can refer to all garments, but people looking for knitwear are usually looking for a jumper or a vest. The fact that the strands of yarn used to make these garments can be seen with the naked eye is a key characteristic of knitwear. Woollen jumpers of which you can see the thick threads are likely the most popular example, but when the garment has a finer knit, it also qualifies as knitwear. Traditionally, knitwear is made out of wool. These days, using wool isn’t an absolute necessity any more. In fact, a majority of Airforce’s knitwear is either largely or entirely made out of cotton. Other fabrics, such as modal and polyamide, are suitable for knitting as well. An advantage of cotton over wool is that it isn’t itchy. Also, cotton has breathable qualities, it is lightweight, and it is soft to the skin. Our sweaters, hoodies and vests for men are generally also made out of knitted fabrics, but in most cases, you cannot see that with the naked eye.
When Do You Wear Knitwear?
Since knitwear is generally made out of relatively thick fabrics, it is mostly worn during winter months. Because of this, you can comfortably wear our men’s knitwear under your men’s winter jacket. The designs of these jumpers match those of our winter jackets. However, our knitwear can also be worn on warmer days. When temperatures slowly start to drop during the autumn or when spring days aren’t quite warm enough yet, you can wear a knitted vest or a knitted jumper with your summer jacket. Fine-knit knitwear has a more elegant, formal appearance, because there is far less space between the strands of yarn. In some cases, it might even barely be visible that the garment is knitted to begin with. But even if that is the case, the garment is still slightly stretchy and crease-resistant. For polo shirts and sensible turtleneck jumpers, a fine-knit fabric is the most suitable choice. While it might not look quite as relaxing, our fine-knit garments are every bit as comfortable as our heavy-knit jumpers.
